Elvis the Comedian

We can always count on our Velvet Elvis for a little entertainment ... sweet Elvis:

Silly Elvis:

Seaweed Spa Treatments!

I'm sure that people pay good money to be "pampered" with seaweed treatments - this weekend, everyone in Galveston received a complimentary seaweed loofah!

It was on the beach for pedicure smoothing, it was in the water for leg exfoliation ...

It provided food and entertainment for the seagulls ...

But it didn't stop us from soaking up a few rays!

This morning, it was worse. Complete coverage along the water-line and "carpets" of seaweed floating in all along the shore.

The good news is that they're using it to rebuild the dunes destroyed by Ike. We need it since they weren't able to replace the [expensive] geo-tubes that provided some protection pre-Ike.

Dog Days

It's official ... the dog days of summer are here!

It was hot, but this pooch knows how to stay cool with his very own - LARGE - float!

And a quick dip, followed by a vigorous shake, cooled him off.

A Sad Anniversary

Thursday, May 24th, 2012 marks the ten year anniversary of the death of our good friend, Dennis Medley. It's hard to believe how much time has gone by since the last time I answered the phone to Dennis' voice - asking for Jerry with his own version of BREWWW ...

Dennis, if you're reading, we miss you and still laugh about the time you were bringing a new girlfriend to dinner and Ronnie called her Mary Elsa. Super Bowl Sunday will never be the same.

A Wise Woman

Houston Women's Magazine honored six remarkable women - including my sister-in-law, Dr. Hope Northrup - as their 2012 Wise Woman. Hope was nominated by the parent of a patient who - over the years - has become a good friend.

Ed with Hope and her two children, Daniel & Martha

And I had a nice lunch and snagged these beautiful flowers!

Congrats to Hope!

Mini-Me

Ike is still struggling with his health and needs to be eating more, but seems happy and spends a lot of time hanging out with Denny. His new thing is going out on the balcony with them every morning while I make the bed - this is prime squirrel/dove watching and he wants in on the action too!

Happy Birthday Lord Byron

In celebration of what would have been Byron Nelson's 100th Birthday, we went back to Las Colinas to see the golf. It's always a great experience at the Four Seasons and we had a lovely room overlooking the course ...

and the 18th green ...

We drove up on Thursday, walked the course all afternoon and then enjoyed the pool area before dinner.

AND a margarita!

Beautiful sunrise ...

Friday morning, Jason came out and we put in some serious miles walking and watching the golf

For dinner, we had delicious stone crab claws & fried shrimp at the local Truluck's. I think Zach likes stone crab!

Hanging out at Cafe on the Green

The reason we were doing the "Truluck's tour" is a long story, but Saturday night we headed to the Southlake location and dove into another tray of stone crabs. Gotta get 'em while they're in season!

Followed by a monster piece of cake - which we were unable to finish.

Although we didn't get to see much of the Dallas Brewers, we had a great time at the tournament and got some much needed R&R.

A Spectacular Sunset

One thing's for sure, sunsets after storms are always beautiful

And Saturday's sunset did not disappoint!

The pelicans had come in to roost for the night

It's close to "burn out" on the camera lens, but still a beautiful image

And there it goes, behind the palm trees and the horizon, closing out another day.

Celebrating Mother's Day ... Without Mom

We've celebrated a lot of Mother's Days at the beach, so it seemed appropriate to gather in Galveston on this Mother's Day weekend - our first without Mom. We played on the beach, ate pulled pork sandwiches and enjoyed the weather - which improved dramatically by mid-morning after the severe storms that rocked us through the night.

Martha, Hope and Mary enjoying the shade of their big "pop-up" tent.

Ray and Memphis walking the beach

Ed waiting and waiting on a "ride-able wave"

Toni & Mary getting some sun

Daniel on the boogie board

He's getting the hang of it, but he wasn't quite "hanging ten"!

Memphis gets his first surfing lesson from Uncle Ed, with help from Daniel & Toni

After learning to jump the waves, Memphis decided to jump Daniel

Hope, napping between whacks from flying volleyballs from the game next to us

Beach umbrellas and football ... a good time was had by all!

As I post these photos, I can't help but think about Mom and how she would have enjoyed receiving the post email with these photos. As we cleaned out her things there were YEARS of emailed photos in her little file box and on the foot stool by her chair. Happy Mother's Day, Mom ... we miss you!

Things That Make You Go ... Hmmm?

Did you all know that Mercedes is now making an electric car?

Look closely at this photo.

As I was walking into the gym, I passed this car in the garage and had to stop and take a photo! Not sure what the cord was to, but with all the focus on electric cars it was a pretty funny sight.

He's Got Game!

You all know how I love iProducts ... same goes for my Elvis. Here's a funny shot of him "gaming" on my iPad!

Longhorns in the City?

On Jerry's birthday, he wanted to go to the driving range at Wildcat Golf Club, so as we're heading around the corner to the course, we see THIS ...

These super cute baby longhorns were brand new!

Hook 'em Horns!

This happy cow was munching and swinging that tail

Not entirely sure how he carries around those horns - they must weigh a TON!

Several beautiful horses were sharing the pasture

... wish I could have ridden them

And, for protection, the herd had these two friendly donkeys

Just look at that cute face!
